Show opening. Christina Nick's most recent paintings focus on her many trips to Los Islas Encantatas, the Galapagos Islands, as a guide for the Canadian tour company, Butterfield & Robinson. In this challenging series of work Christina grapples with her vision of these enchanted islands.  She explores ideas ranging from our relationship with these volcanic islands, the magical ability of visitors to approach the animals and the land itself: stark, humbling, always fascinating.
Her paintings are mixed media, acrylic and encaustic wax on canvas, paper and board, sometimes adding a collage element, using old maps of Ecuador and the Galapagos and text from The Origin of the Species or The Voyage of the Beagle by Charles Darwin. Wildlife might be depicted directly or simply hinted at in a landscape, but invariably there are echoes of what lured her to the islands in the first place.

Christina works in her studios in Serres Morlaas, France and Brackendale, BC, Canada, where she creates monumental metal sculptures, cire perdue bronzes and multimedia paintings.
