What’s Happening: African Storm is an outdoor festival being held to raise funds and community awareness of The SAM Project. Featuring African music, art, games, contests, and a silent auction, African Storm will be held in conjunction with the finish of the STORMY trail ultra-marathon (Canada’s 50- and 100-mile trail running championship). Saturday, August 9th, 2008 2 to 6 pm Brennan Park Recreation Centre The SAM Project is a non-profit charity (BC incorporated society #S-52697) launched in 2007 by a Squamish family in memory of their 16 year-old son who was tragically killed. The SAM Project stands both for their son’s name and for Sustainability through Agriculture and Micro-enterprises. The Project helps people in impoverished villages in Zambia by providing access to resources in the areas of agriculture and tree planting, and micro-finance for small businesses such as beekeeping, and gardening. It also supports HIV/AIDS awareness programs, and a lunch program for primary-school students. The organization is steered by Colin and Sandra Eves of Squamish.
